The Grey Eludes You

I have driven this country from one end to the other, and I have looked at it from on high using satellite photos. Not once did I ever see a blue state, or a red state. I saw great mass of land populated with a large number of angry people, and there were not just two types of angry people, there were three.

There were Republicans who were legitimately angry with the Democrats, and there were Democrats who were legitimately angry with the Republicans. There was also a third group who was disgusted with the entire process that we now call our government. This third group could clearly see that the Democrats and Republicans were unable to relinquish their death grip on each other. This third group did not care if their party won and the opposing party was banished to the Netherlands. They only cared about this country surviving, and there being something left for their children to enjoy when they grew up.

There was a time when we had the luxury of being able to squabble over gay rights, and a host of other pressing social issues. This is not to say that the arguments of the gay activists or the evangelicals do not have validity, nor am I inferring that either group does not have the right to express their feelings. What I am trying to suggest is that everyone needs to be aware that there are times to fight these smaller battles, and then there are times to fight the bigger war.

Look at it this way; imagine if you lived in a community that was situated near a river. Imagine for a moment that the river was rising and threatening to flood your entire village, I don’t think you would stop to ask if the person helping you move your furniture to higher ground, was Republican or Democrat. Most sane people would be entirely happy that someone was helping them at a tough moment in time.

If all of the homosexuals and all of the evangelicals should die, then their agendas die with them. That said, if they are all dead, more than likely, the rest of their fellow Americans have perished as well. If all of the homosexuals and every last one of the evangelicals are suffering through such a tremendous hardship that they are having great difficulty finding food, then the rest of America is starving along with them.

Soon enough, just such situations will arise in this country, (and in some cases they have already occurred). On the day when the river is rising or the crops are getting thin, I hope both Republicans and Democrats, and all of the special interest groups that find shelter under each party’s umbrella, have enough common sense to stop warring with each other and join in the fight to save everyone.

Frankly, it would be marvelous if each of these groups had the vision now to see the problems ahead in the road, and stop their squabbling long enough to preempt these threats. Sadly I am afraid that right now they can only see each other as the main threat. Such is the case when all you can see is just red or blue, and everything else is just black and white.

While I agree that your 'Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few' dialoge here is valid, I'm wondering what it is you see as the big 'threat' that is one of these arising 'situations'

So...you were "high" when you were spying on us? And everyone thinks it's the NSA that did "illegal" surveillance.....
